Grant description

Growing Into Middle School: Building Independent Learners is a hands-on classroom initiative designed to help 6th grade students successfully transition from elementary school to middle school. The project will provide students with the tools, resources, and experiences needed to develop the organizational, executive-function, time-management, problem-solving, communication and self-advocacy skills necessary for middle school success. The goal is not simply to provide students with supplies, but to teach students how to use tools and strategies to become independent learners. Students will have repeated opportunities to practice these skills, reflect on their progress and identify strategies that work best for them.

Campus: McCarroll Middle School
