Chapter by Chapter: Building Lifelong Readers
Hannah Brashier, Kenzie Delgado, Micaela Walter. Reaches: About 70 students in 2nd grade at STEM Academy at Enis
Grant description
What if a book could take a child to the moon, into the middle of a tornado, or inside a chocolate factory—and then inspire them to build something of their own? Our 2nd graders will use engaging chapter books as the starting point for reading, discussion, writing, and hands-on challenges. Students will read together, practice becoming more confident and expressive readers, and then design, build, test, and improve solutions inspired by their stories. With class sets of high-interest books, approximately 70 2nd grade students will have the opportunity to grow as readers while discovering that great stories can inspire great ideas.
