Make Math Visible: A Magnetic Math Modeling Toolkit

Grant description

I am requesting oversized magnetic math manipulatives to help make math visible for my 3rd grade students. My students have individual manipulatives at their desks, but larger, classroom-sized tools will allow me to model mathematical ideas where everyone can clearly see and understand what is happening. These hands-on materials will help students see the connection between concrete objects, pictures, numbers, and equations—especially when learning challenging concepts. By making abstract ideas easier to see and discuss, these manipulatives will give DISD students more opportunities to build understanding, explain their thinking, and develop confidence as mathematicians.
