Impact: Individual Kinder classroom at Young

I am seeking funding to implement a flexible seating initiative in my kindergarten classroom to create a more dynamic, engaging, and student-centered learning environment. Traditional classroom seating often limits children’s ability to move, collaborate, and learn comfortably. By incorporating flexible seating options, I aim to foster increased student engagement, support diverse learning styles, and enhance the social-emotional well-being of our young learners.

Kindergarten is a critical stage in a child’s educational journey, where foundational academic skills, social interactions, and classroom routines are developed. At this stage, students have varying needs for movement, sensory input, and comfort to remain focused and successful. Unfortunately, traditional desks and chairs can restrict natural movement and lead to restlessness, discomfort, and disengagement. Research shows that flexible seating can improve student focus, motivation, and classroom behavior. According to studies from educational experts, providing students with choices in seating can increase their sense of autonomy and ownership over their learning. Furthermore, flexible seating supports kinesthetic learners who benefit from movement, and sensory-seeking students who require varied seating surfaces to remain calm and attentive.

Currently, our kindergarten classroom is furnished with standard desks and chairs, limiting our ability to meet these diverse needs. Students often struggle to stay seated and attentive for long periods, which can impact their learning progress and classroom behavior. Implementing flexible seating options will provide a range of comfortable, engaging spaces that encourage movement, collaboration, and creativity. This grant will fund the purchase of various flexible seating options suitable for kindergarten students. These will include items such as:

• Floor cushions storage
• Stadium seats
• Mini Couch
