Little Reader, Big Dreams
Stacy Williams, Maddie Delcastillo. Reaches: All 416 Carson Elementary students, through a rotating backpack checkout
Grant description
Little Readers, Big Dreams is a reading initiative that will strengthen literacy by connecting classroom instruction with learning at home. Approximately 35%–41% of Carson Elementary families are economically disadvantaged, which may limit access to quality books and literacy resources. The project will provide 80 reusable, Science of Reading-aligned literacy backpacks containing books, activities, parent resources, and teacher-led instructional videos. Through a rotating checkout system, all 416 students will access these resources throughout the school year. The project will increase reading practice, strengthen foundational skills and comprehension, engage families, and create a sustainable literacy resource for years to come.
