Impact: All students at Carson

Throughout my years in special education, I have seen the success of using sensory fidgets and exercises to help regulate a student’s heightened emotional state. A sensory pathway can be used at every age and anywhere that you would like to lay one down. For example, in the hallways, playgrounds, sidewalks, or even in the cafeteria. This would be helpful for not only the special education students but any student in the building. They could regulate, or calm, their emotions or stress levels without even realizing it. This past summer (2025), I had the opportunity to attend the Building Better Behavior Conference hosted by Region 13 in Austin, Texas. One of the speakers presented on Enhancing Learning with Sensory Supports. They discussed the benefits of sensory supports being added to a regular routine of a student. Some of these benefits included improvement of attention for engagement in their learning, assisting to regulate emotions and behaviors, and increasing social skills.
